Max Mayfield
Maxine Mayfield, better known as Max, is a main character in the second season of Stranger Things. Max is tough, confident, and unafraid of speaking her mind. Her appearance, behavior, and pursuits are more typical of boys than of girls in her era. Due to her abusive relationship with her stepbrother, Billy, she has grown protective of her past out of fear that her brother will lash out. Max is shown to be asocial and gloomy and often seems irritated or annoyed. She is a proficient skateboarder and uses it as her main form of transportation. She is also skilled in video games, in which she uses the alter ego "MadMax." Her distrustful demeanor makes her skeptical; she has a hard time believing the strange events that occur in her new town. Nevertheless, she is willing to lend a helping hand once she accepts the gravity of a situation.
Max is played by Sadie Sink (born April 16, 2002), an American actress, otherwise known for her role in American Odyssey as Suzanne Ballard. She's also appeared in episodes of Blue Bloods and The Americans. Sink has also appeared on Broadway, with credits including Annie and The Audience. Sink was born in Brenham in east-central Texas. Due to her obsession with recreating Disney's High School Musical with her brother when she was seven years old, her mother decided to send her off to acting classes in a community theater, in nearby Houston. As a newcomer in Season 2, she quickly picks up the viewers interest and has become a key component in the storyline.
